Someone asked me 'Why'

Someone asked the question, "Why are you on LinkedIn?" (and the SecurityPanda is indeed on LinkedIn). This is what came to mind.

That's a good question... I guess originally because if you don't have -some- kind of online presence you practically don't exist, and I'm close to a ghost anyway.

Nowadays it's also to teach a little and to learn a little; to watch for ways I can help this little community of ours make a better world. Some situations that come to mind:

"Hello Recruiter-Person, nope I don't need a job right now I have a good one thank you, BUT... let me take 15 minutes and talk to you anyway because I might know someone who DOES need a job that you might not have reached yet."

"Hello Person-Seeking-to-enter-the-World-of-Infosec, I'm no expert on career building, but I've got 15 minutes to spend relating experiences I had and what worked for me or someone I know."

"Hello Person-Working-on-their-MS-or-PhD, sure I've got time to be on your panel / review your paper / give advice, please don't forget to keep me posted on how things are going for you, I'm rooting for your success!"

"Hello Diversity-Encouragement-Group, thanks for inviting me to participate! I've got some strong opinions about what it means to make the Infosec field more inclusive, can we talk about them here?"

Why are -you-?
